Newsletter from September 2014

There has been a great happening in the world of Letchworth Arcadians since the last newsletter.

Our Cabaret Showcase at The Letchworth Arts Centre was quite an experience! For the first time in a long while our show was a ‘sell out’ and people were waiting for returns!

It was certainly well received by the audiences and was a very different experience for all of us involved. We also managed to make a profit which was wonderful and shows that we can still make money in this day and age!

Soon after this we took part in the Letchworth Festival, trying to raise the profile of Letchworth Arcadians within Letchworth. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped with face painting, handing out flyers and generally promoting the ‘face’ of Letchworth Arcadians.

Following on from the Cabaret Showcase, we were approached by Old Warden Church to put together a concert for both their fund raising and ours. This was a great night, warmly received by those who attended and enjoyed enormously by those taking part. We made over £150 which all adds to the Arcadians Coffers!

So what now?

On Tuesday 9th September we met for the first time since the AGM and it was my great pleasure to announce that our Spring Show for 2015 will be Fiddler on the Roof!

This will be performed at St Christopher’s School Theatre during the week beginning 6th April 2015. We realise this is Easter week but we are limited to using this theatre in school holidays. We are very excited to be returning to performing full shows and believe that this is one we will be able to present on a limited budget. All aspects of the budget will be shared by those attending rehearsals  but it is dependent on selling tickets. Therefore I would urge all members to come along and take part, we need you for this show! But I would also urge all patrons and ‘friends’ of the society to come along and support the show by buying tickets. Details on how you can do this will be circulated a ssonn as possible.

In October we will be joining the members of North Avenue Methodist Church to celebrate their 100th Anniversary. North Avenue has been our ‘home’ for a great number of years and we are very lucky to be able to make use of the amenities there. It would be great to have a number of members singing as part of their celebrations. Look out for an email with details about this performance.

On the same day, Saturday 25th October, we are repeating the concert we did at Old Warden Church, at United Reform Church, Baldock. Again watch out for details about this and let’s hope we can raise some much needed funds for the society.

And then suddenly we are looking at Christmas! This is really just to give you advance notice of our Christmas Concert. We are returning to St Paul’s Church Letchworth for a Celebration of Christmas. Again there will be more details coming out soon about this and all the other events.

I hope this shows you how hard your committee have been working on putting a programme of events together for you all. It is not an easy task and through all of this we are looking very closely at finances to ensure we don’t get ourselves into trouble. That is extremely difficult in this day and age and I would urge all of you to get involved in as much as you can to support the society.

We are still in need of a Treasurer. I am extremely grateful to Rick Nott who is ‘holding the fort’ but we really need to find someone who will manage the finances of the society. This is becoming increasing important. If you think you or someone you know might be able to help us, please contact me on robandmare@sky.com

Finally, I am delighted to announce we have a new editor for the Newsletter – Gilly Mackilligan has agreed to take this on from me. Having edited the newsletter for the last 17 years it will be great to have a new ‘style’ of writing. Thank you Gilly for taking this on and if you would like to contribute to the newsletter please email Gilly on gilly.mac@hotmail.co.uk

I hope you are excited by the programme that is ahead of us for the next few months and I look forward to seeing you at rehearsals or at one of our events.

Chairman
